It’s a scary statistic for parents, that of all infant/childhood injuries, 80% happen within the home. As parents, or parents to be, are we skilled to handle a medical emergency?
Eve Health is now offering courses each month and these are suited to new parents, parents to be as well as grandparents.
The course runs for 2.5 hours and costs $85 per person. It is practical and hands on in a small group, with a focus on the most common household injuries known to affect babies and toddlers. At the end of the session you will be more confident in what to do in an emergency situation, equipped with the knowledge on how to save a life and know what to do in the crucial time where you are waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
You will learn CPR for babies and children and how to manage:
- Fevers and febrile convulsions
- Burns and scalds
- Head injuries
- Allergic reactions
- Poisons, bites and stings
The sessions are run by Laura Mulcahy, a trained emergency nurse who worked in Adult and Paediatric Intensive Care and Emergency units in the UK and Australia. She is highly experienced in first aid training and is a mother herself. Laura has been running sessions just like this since 2008 which have undoubtedly helped many little lives.
