AGES Pre-Conference Workshop in Laparoscopic Cadaveric Pelvic Anatomy

This course is designed for gynaecologists with laparoscopic skills who wish to expand their knowledge of pelvic and abdominal retroperitoneal anatomy. The participants will be instructed through a combination of didactic and hands-on cadaveric sessions utilising umembalmed female donated cadavers.

No more than three participants are assigned to each donor and will be closely supervised by an experienced advanced laparoscopic surgical instructor. There will be a rotational format where each participant will have the opportunity to operate, assist and observe to optimise the learning experience.

The course will focus on demonstration of the pelvic sidewall dissection with a particular focus on the surgical layers and surgical spaces with the anatomical structure contained within them.  The registrants will have the opportunity to complete the anatomical dissection required to perform a Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. The retroperitoneal spaces around the bladder, pelvic floor, large bowel and kidneys will all be explored extensively.

Aims & Objectives

  • Learn and review the Anatomy of the pelvis, pelvic sidewall and rectosigmoid, and renal system
  • Observe the laparoscopic cadaveric dissection of significant abdominal and pelvic structures
  • Relate the anatomy to common laparoscopic procedures and apply this knowledge

About the Convenor

Dr Michael Wynn-Williams MBChB, FRANZCOG, is a Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist and a founding Director of Eve Health.

Michael is an extremely talented doctor who holds a real passion for what he does.  With a sub speciality and extensive experience in advanced reproductive endosurgery and minimally invasive pelvic surgery, he has a focus on preserving a woman’s fertility where diseases like endometriosis and fibroids are severely impacting on a woman’s life. Michael is highly skilled and experienced in advanced Laparoscopic Gynaecology.

Michael completed his Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Christchurch and Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, after graduating from Otago University. He completed a two year Fellowship at the Centre for Advanced Reproductive Endosurgery in Sydney, with a third year in Glasgow, Scotland. He then spent two years as a Consultant Gynaecologist at Cambridge University NHS Trust. He moved to Brisbane in 2006 to enjoy the Queensland lifestyle, and is now a Visiting Medical Officer at the Mater Adults and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospitals, where he sees public patients with severe endometriosis from around Queensland.

Michael also provides private consultations from Eve Health at Southbank, Spring Hill and The Wesley Hospital. He takes an active interest in teaching laparoscopic surgical techniques and has demonstrated at many surgical meetings in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Dr Wynn-Williams has knowledge, specialist skills and experience in the following:

Endometriosis, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, DaVinci robotic surgery, recurrent pregnancy loss, infertility, assisted reproduction (including IVF), pelvic pain, fibroids, ovarian masses, menstrual disorders, colposcopy, total laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic reversal of sterilization, laparoscopic myomectomy, laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy.

In September, 2015, Dr Wynn-Williams presented for the eighth time at the Royston Hospital in Hastings, NZ. Dr Wynn-Williams volunteers his teaching time to approximately 30 gynaecology students every year.
