Myomectomy

Back

Myomectomy is an operation to remove fibroids from the uterus whilst preserving the main body of the uterus.

Fibroids can grow in various parts of the uterus including the outside (subserosal fibroid), in the wall (intramural) or in the cavity (submucosal). They can be removed surgically via the hysteroscopic, abdominal and laparoscopic route. The decision to perform a myomectomy depends on several factors including the symptoms such as heavy periods, infertility, recurrent miscarriage, pressure effects, the size, quantity and location of the fibroids.
