Dr Stephen Soong

BPharm, MBBS, FRANZCOG

Dr Stephen Soong is a highly qualified and compassionate gynaecologist known for his professional and friendly approach. With an extensive educational background and valuable experience, he is dedicated to providing comprehensive, evidence-based care that is personalised to each of his patient’s needs. Stephen’s areas of specialisation include endometriosis, pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, ovarian cysts, colposcopy and laparoscopy.

Stephen grew up in Brisbane and completed both his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Queensland (UQ), before embarking on his specialist training locally.  His extensive experience includes advanced gynaecology and minimally invasive surgical training at all three tertiary hospitals in South East Queensland: The Mater Hospital, Gold Coast University Hospital and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH). Stephen also holds a position as a Staff Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the RBWH, where he is passionate about training the next generation of gynaecologists. He is currently the Chair of the Women’s and Newborn Services Education and Training Committee and holds the position of Education Lead for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the RBWH, highlighting his dedication to medical education and the advancement of women’s health.

Beyond his clinical practice, Stephen actively contributes to academia and healthcare leadership roles. He serves as a Senior Lecturer at UQ and is an examiner for the Faculty of Medicine, sharing his knowledge and expertise with aspiring medical professionals. Stephen currently sits on the Queensland Obstetric Leadership Advisory Group as a committee member and provides expert advice to help shape future women’s health guidelines and policies at a state level.

Stephen is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG), and a member of the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES) and Australasian Menopause Society (AMS).

Stephen’s passion for women’s health stems from his dedication to advocacy and he takes pride in not only alleviating his patients’ problems but listening to their concerns and empowering them with the tools to lead healthier lives.

Outside of work, Stephen cherishes spending quality time with his wife and two young daughters. He enjoys exploring different cuisines, appreciating good food and fine wines, and is an avid sports enthusiast.
