Dr Stephen Soong

Dr. Stephen Soong is a dedicated obstetrician and gynaecologist who is known for his professional yet friendly and approachable manner. With a strong background in education and extensive experience in advanced gynaecology and complex obstetrics, Stephen is committed to providing comprehensive, evidence-based care personalised to each patient’s unique needs.

Beyond caring for pregnancies of all risks, Stephen’s expertise spans a wide range of gynaecological issues. This includes endometriosis, pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, ovarian cysts, and hysterectomy, with specialised surgical skills in colposcopy, hysteroscopy, and laparoscopy.

Stephen grew up in Brisbane and completed both his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Queensland (UQ), before undertaking his specialist training at three leading tertiary hospitals in South-East Queensland. Over the past few years, Stephen has been the Chair of Education and Training in Women’s and Newborn Services and a Staff Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the RBWH, where he remains passionate about training the next generation of specialists.

Beyond his clinical practice, Stephen is a Senior Lecturer at UQ and an examiner for the Faculty of Medicine. He contributes to the field as a reviewer for the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and plays a key role in shaping future women’s health policies as a committee member of the Queensland Obstetric Leadership Advisory Group.

When not at work, Stephen values quality time with his wife and two young daughters. He is a self-confessed foodie who loves to travel and explore new cuisines and is also a sports enthusiast who likes to stay active.

With a focus on education, effective communication, and evidence-based practice, Stephen is dedicated to not only addressing his patients’ health concerns but also listening to their needs and empowering them with the knowledge and tools to lead healthier lives. Whether navigating a low or high-risk pregnancy, Stephen’s individualised care approach ensures that your journey is supported with the latest medical evidence, making this special time in your life a positive and fulfilling experience.
